Award Introduction

The Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC), which will be held in San Diego, USA in March 2024, is the largest and most influential international conference in the field of optical communication. Bitao Shen, a doctoral student of OFC, was awarded Mr. Dingyi Li Memorial Scholarship (3 students from all over the world), which is organized by the conference.

Award List

Dr. Dingyi Li (7/7/1931-12/27/2012) is a renowned Chinese-American scientist in the field of photonics. His innovative work at AT&T Bell Labs pioneered the research and application of lightwave communications, which has had a profound impact on information technology for the past four decades, and he is known as the "Father of Fiber Optic Communication Wavelength Division Multiplexing". The Tingye Li Memorial Scholarship Award was established at the end of 2019, and will be awarded annually in honor of Dr. Dingyi Li's outstanding contributions to the field of photonics, as well as his selfless mentorship of young scientists and outstanding service to the photonics industry. The number of recipients is capped at 2 per year, with the PSC Board of Directors appointing a Scholarship Committee to raise funds and oversee the selection process. Due to the intense competition this year, the scores of the 2 outstanding candidates were almost equal, and thus 3 winners were finally selected, one more than in previous years.
