The Chinese Optical Society (COS) is a voluntary organization composed of optical scientists, engineers, and related enterprises and institutions. It serves as an important social force in advancing optical science and technology in China. The Society was founded in 1979 under the initiative of distinguished figures including Mr. Wang Daheng and Mr. Yan Jici, both academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Engineering, pioneers of China’s “Two Bombs” project, and advocates of the national “863” high-tech program.
The COS Fellowship is an honorary title established to recognize outstanding members who have made exceptional contributions to the advancement of optics, optical engineering, and the development of the Society. The system was approved at the fifth meeting of the 7th Executive Council on January 10, 2015, in accordance with the Regulations of the Chinese Optical Society Fellowship.
To be eligible, candidates must hold a senior professional title and have been a COS member for more than five years. Nominees are recommended by two current Fellows or the Executive Council, followed by formal review and selection. Each year, no more than ten new Fellows are elected.
