Congratulations to Dr. Haowen Shu for winning the "Seventh Chinese Society of Optical Engineering Innovative Paper Award"

Congratulations to Prof. Xingjun Wang for the doctoral dissertation supervised by him, "Research on High-efficiency Optoelectronic Devices by Fusion of Silicon-based Multi-material Systems", winning the "Seventh Chinese Society of Optical Engineering Innovative Dissertation Award". The author is Haowen Shu, a 2020 PhD graduate of the Center, and Haowen is now a Burson-Marsteller Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center.

The doctoral dissertations participating in the selection went through four stages of recommendation by degree-granting units and industry experts, preliminary evaluation by the Award Office, reevaluation by peer experts in correspondence and final evaluation by the Academician Expert Committee, the final review was completed in June 2022, with five innovative dissertations and five nominated dissertations being selected. The award ceremony was postponed until the end of the year due to the epidemic.

In order to promote the cultivation quality of doctoral students in optical engineering discipline in China, promote the scientific research and innovation ability of doctoral students, to stimulate the enthusiasm of doctoral students to make creative scientific research achievements in the field of optical engineering and realize the leapfrog development of optical engineering discipline, the Optical Engineering Society of China has carried out the "Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation" award selection since 2016.

Haowen Shu's Ph.D. dissertation focuses on the core functional devices of the next-generation optoelectronic on-chip information system, proposes an integrated device and system-on-chip preparation scheme using the fusion of silicon-based multi-material systems, realizes high-efficiency on-chip modulation and array laser generation, and constructs an integrated scheme of the silicon-based on-chip optoelectronic information system oriented to scale-up, which advances the development of its application in data communication, signal processing, sensing, computing, and other highly parallel systems such as data communication, signal processing, sensing, and computing.

During his study and work at Peking University, Haowen Shu was awarded the National Scholarship for Doctoral Students, the May 4th Scholarship, the Intel Fellowship, the Outstanding Graduate of Peking University, and the Peking University Outstanding Postdoctoral Award. He was also selected for the National Postdoctoral Innovation Talent Support Program and Peking University Boya Postdoctoral Fellowship. Up to now, Haowen Shu has published nearly 50 papers, and as the first/co-first author , his related results have been published in Nature , Nature Photonics , Nature Communications and other high-level journal papers. He has published nearly 10 papers in the OFC CLEO top meeting and has 4 authorized patents. In addition, he presided over five projects of National Key Research and Development Program for Young Scientists, National Natural Science Foundation of China Youth Program and Bo Xin Program.
