The review article "Recent Progress in Silicon-Based Slow-Light Electro-Optic Modulators" by Changhao Han, Ming Jin, Yuansheng Tao, and Bitao Shen, Ph.D. students of the Center, was recently published in the journal Micromachines. recently published in Micromachines.
The article systematically summarizes the research progress of silicon-based slow light modulators from the physical principle of slow light effect and the characteristics of slow light waveguide. The article classifies silicon-based slow light modulators into two categories, silicon-based photonic crystal modulators and silicon-based waveguide grating modulators, based on the differences in the slow light structures. The article provides a detailed discussion and analysis of the device structure, preparation process and working performance, as well as a comparison of specific indexes, and discusses its future application scenarios, and finally summarizes and looks forward to the problems faced by silicon-based slow-light modulators and the future development direction.
