Recently, the Optical Society of America (Optica) announced the list of newly elected Fellows for the year 2024, and 129 scientists from 26 countries were newly elected as Optica Fellows. Prof. Xingjun Wang of the School of Electronics was elected as a 2024 Fellow of the Optical Society of America for innovation and technological breakthroughs in photonic integrated circuits for applications in optical communication, microwave photonics, and optical computing.
The Optica Fellow is the highest academic honor bestowed by the Optical Society of America on experts in the field. Founded in 1916, the Society is an authoritative international academic organization in the field of optics whose purpose is to promote the development and application of knowledge in optics and photonics and its wide dissemination throughout the world. In addition to the fields of optics and photonics, the Society provides high-caliber information services to specialists and scholars in many fields, including physics, biology, medicine, electrical engineering, communications, astronomy, meteorology, materials science, mechanical engineering and computing. The Society annually selects scholars with outstanding achievements and leadership in the field of optics on an international scale to be awarded the title of Fellow in recognition of their significant contributions to the development of optics and photonics.
