In accordance with the provisions of the Administrative Measures for Evaluation of Excellent Dissertations of China Communications Society (for Trial Implementation), 10 dissertations were selected after being recommended by the institutions of higher education, branches of the Society and other units and experts, and evaluated by the experts organized by the Society and publicized to the society. The doctoral dissertation "Research on Silicon-based Integrated Microwave Photonic Devices and Systems" supervised by Prof. Xingjun Wang of the Center was selected, and the author of the dissertation is Tao Yuansheng, a Ph.D. graduate of the class of 2022.
In order to promote the cultivation of scientific spirit and scientific research ability of high-level talents in the field of information and communication in China, and promote independent scientific and technological innovation, CCS carries out the awarding and selection of excellent doctoral dissertations once a year, in order to commend doctoral dissertations based on the frontiers of the disciplines in the field of communication, which have achieved breakthroughs as well as have better social benefits and application prospects, and to stimulate doctoral students to make creative and positive scientific research achievements in the field of information and communication.
Yuansheng Tao, graduated from the School of Optoelectronic Information of University of Electronic Science and Technology (UEST) as an undergraduate in 2017, and then was guaranteed to be admitted to the Department of Electronics, School of Information Science and Technology, Peking University for Ph.D. study under the doctoral supervisor, Prof. Wang Xingjun, and obtained his Ph.D. degree of Engineering in 2022 June. During his study at Peking University, Tao Yuansheng was awarded the Peking University Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation, the Peking University May Fourth Scholarship, the Pioneer of the Three Good Students, the China Microwave Photonics Academic Rising Star (4 selected nationwide), the Li Dingyi Memorial Scholarship Nominee (10 selected globally), and other honorary awards, and he has been selected to the National Supporting Program for Innovative Talents of Postdoctoral Programs.
Dr. Tao Yuansheng with his supervisor Prof. Wang Xingjun
Yuansheng Tao's Ph.D. dissertation focuses on the intersection of silicon-based optoelectronics and microwave photonics, i.e., microwave photonic systems on a chip using silicon-based optical integration technology. The article proposes a scheme for the preparation of on-chip microwave photonic systems with hybrid integration of silicon-based multi-material systems, and realizes a microcavity optical comb-driven silicon-optical integrated microwave photonic system. Important research results such as fully chip-integrated reconfigurable microwave photonic filters, ultra-wideband instantaneous frequency measurement systems, and high linearity silicon-graphene electro-optic modulators have contributed to the engineering and practicalization of the next-generation microwave and lightwave fused optoelectronic information system. Mr. Tao has published more than 30 papers, and the related results have been published as first/co-first authors in Nature, Laser & Photonics Reviews, Photonics Research (2 papers), Optics Express, Optics Letter and other international journals. He has also published one Post Deadline Paper in ACP, and three oral presentations in CLEO, the top international conference in the field of optoelectronics.
